The South Iceland Development Fund (Uppbyggingarsjóður Suðurlands) is a competitive fund dedicated to supporting proactive, innovative, and forward-thinking initiatives that align with the region's official Strategy Plan (Sóknaráætlun Suðurlands).

Applications open on September 16th and the deadline to apply is October 21st at 14:00.

The journey from a great idea to successful execution in South Iceland consists of four simple steps:

1. Preparation and Free Consultation Don't start from scratch! We strongly encourage all applicants to take advantage of the free advisory services offered by SASS regional development officers before submitting an application. Our development officers are located all across South Iceland and are ready to help you refine your concept, review application drafts, and provide expert advice on the writing process itself.

2. Submit Your Grant Application Once your project is well-defined, you can apply using our simple, digital application form. The maximum single grant awarded by the fund is 2.5 million ISK. Before submitting, it is crucial that you carefully read and understand the fund's allocation rules.

3. Professional Evaluation Process As a competitive fund, all applications are professionally evaluated based on predetermined criteria outlined in the allocation rules. On average, the success rate for submitted applications is around 50%. A carefully crafted application with clear, measurable objectives significantly increases your chances of securing funding for your project.

4. Contract and Execution Once the allocation decisions have been finalized, a formal contract is signed between SASS and the successful grantees. After the paperwork is done, there is nothing left to do but roll up your sleeves and get to work on bringing your project to life.

5. Delays and Extension Requests We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, causing delays in project execution. If you need to request an extension for the timeline or completion of a funded project, you must contact your designated SASS regional development officer directly to explain the reasons for the delay. The officer will review the situation with you and assist in filing a formal extension request if the necessary conditions are met.
