Focus project

Focus project Regional Development Plan of the Southlands play a significant role in the development and advancement of the region. Priority projects are strategic initiatives that receive special financial support to promote, coordinate, and strengthen various activities in South Iceland. Through prioritization and investment, a solid foundation is laid for a stronger community where the region's collective interests are always kept in mind.

The unique position of the Southland and increased value creation

All priority projects are intended to build directly on the unique qualities that the Southland has to offer, whether in terms of natural resources, community life, or a diverse economy. The goal of these specific projects is to drive increased value creation and social capital that benefits the entire region. By supporting innovation and cross-regional collaboration, the goal is to create new opportunities for both established businesses and new entrepreneurs in Southland.

Improved quality of life for residents and municipalities

The guiding principle of the focus projects is, not least, to improve the quality of life for residents, businesses, and municipalities throughout the region for the long term. The Association of Southland Municipalities oversees the implementation of the Regional Development Plan and ensures that the funding is allocated to projects that lead to real progress and improved cooperation. In this way, the southern municipalities work together purposefully to make the region even more attractive for living and business, with sustainability and competitiveness as their guiding principles.
